- WELCOME TO CASHMASTER (tm)
- --------------------------
-
- Cashmaster (tm) is a set of financial programs aimed at both
- the home and small business. The Bank Teller Program will
- record all your financial transactions. Next, the Cash Flow
- Analyzer takes the information you have entered and does an
- "instant" analysis of where your money goes. The Real Estate
- Analyzer and Financial Analyzer will be of special interest
- for both home finance and small business. Loan calculations
- and loan comparisons as well as savings calculations are
- included. Also included are amortization schedules and
- savings tables.
-
- The main program is made up of four program modules:
- TELLER.EXE, FLOW.EXE, REAL.EXE, and FINANCE.EXE. The
- programs FIRST.EXE, PRINT.BAT, DOC, SAMPLE(S), and
- READ.ME complete the Cashmaster (tm) set.
-
- Cashmaster (tm) will help you to become more organized and
- efficient in your money management. The programs are MENU-
- DRIVEN to make them User Friendly. In addition, the programs
- are designed for ONE-KEY selection of a program's features.
- This makes the programs more friendly and easy to use since
- you don't have to keep pressing the Enter key. Extensive
- error checking has been included to prevent accidental entry
- of wrong information; plus, the bell sounds to get your
- attention when you make a mistake.
-
- For the most part the programs are self-explanatory. If you
- need more details they will be explained in this document.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-

-
-
-
- The Bank Teller and Cash Flow Analyzer are INTEGRATED.
- Integrated programs are becoming more and more popular
- because they share data with one another. You don't have to
- retype the same information to use the features in another
- program - it really increases your productivity. The Bank
- Teller program keeps detailed transactions of your spending,
- including tax status and a budget code. An audit trail is
- included so you know on what date the program was last used.
-
- The program can be used on a color monitor or a monochrome
- monitor. Ordinarily the program displays your balance in
- black (you're in the black). If your balance should go
- negative, the balance is displayed in red (you're in the red
- - we couldn't resist).
-
- The Cash Flow Analyzer uses budget codes you set up to
- provide a detailed analysis of your spending WITHOUT
- reentering all the transactions - it's integrated with the
- Bank Teller program. Since most of us budget on a monthly
- basis, the program takes all the data for a month and
- automatically analyzes where your money went. You could run
- an analysis for one, two, or three weeks and see "how you're
- doing" in relation to how you wanted to spend your money. The
- analysis is printed out so you have a permanent record. It
- can also be saved on disc and comparisons made for any other
- period. You can keep records over an extensive period of
- time to see long-term trends.
-
- The Real Estate Analyzer allows you to figure mortgage
- balance and mortgage payment. You can also compare options
- by changing the mortgage amount, the interest rate, or the
- number of years to help you find the best mortgage value.
- The program will print a mortgage amortization schedule so
- you know the interest paid each month and the remaining
- balance on the mortgage.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- 6
-
-
-
- The Financial Analyzer will calculate just about everything you
- might need in finance. The features include: figure monthly
- payment on a loan, find what interest rate you are paying on
- a loan, determine what loan amount you can afford, calculate
- the future value of your savings, figure the payments needed to
- save for a future amount, etc. The program helps you to
- "shop and compare" in the world of finance. You have the
- option of comparing just about every conceivable possibility
- on loans, including printing the options, to find the best
- value at a lending institution.

- GETTING STARTED
-
- It is a good idea to make a copy of the Cashmaster (tm) disc
- and put the original in a safe place. Use the copy to work
- from. This is the program disc.
-
- We have included some sample files on the disc so you can see
- right away how the programs work. If you do a 'dir' on the
- disc you will see SAMPLE.XX files. The file names are
- SAMPLE and the extension (.XX) will vary. When you run a program
- just type SAMPLE.XX (you will be told what extension letters
- to use).
-
- Ok, let's get started. Although the programs are very user
- friendly, we will provide some details and tips in this
- section about each program.
-
-
- MAIN MENU
-
- Insert the Cashmaster (tm) program disc in drive A and type:
- 'FIRST'. The main menu will allow you to choose the program
- you wish to run. Just make a selection and type the
- appropriate number. The program will always return to this
- main menu so you can make program selections.
-
-

-
-
-

-
-
-

-
-
-
- BANK TELLER
-
- You will need a blank formatted disc to store your account
- transactions (this is just one of any number of data discs).
- Files will be put on this disc so DON'T put a write protect
- tab on it. You can have any number of different checking
- accounts. Just start a new data disc when you need more
- room. To become familar with how the program works, you can
- load a sample checking account (sample.ck) and become familar
- with the Bank Teller features BEFORE you enter your own
- transactions. Select (2) in the Bank Teller menu and load
- SAMPLE.CK. This sample also includes sample budget codes.
- After loading, select (9) in the main menu to see the sample
- budget codes.
-
- The Bank Teller Program will allow you to enter up to 1000
- transactions for an account. This is a full year for most
- people, however, you can name your accounts 1,2,3 and have
- unlimited room. For example, NAT1.CK, NAT2.CK, NAT3.CK; more
- information on naming your accounts later. Note, all the
- files for each account must be on the same data disc; also,
- within each file there must be a complete month of data.
- Don't put data for the same month in, for example, NAT1.CK and
- NAT2.CK. This will allow the Cash Flow Analyzer to work
- correctly. You can enter transactions for checks, deposits,
- or other transactions. Other transactions include bank card
- (debit card) purchases that are withdrawn from your checking
- account, service charges, or fees.
-
- For your convenience, a running total of the number of
- transactions is kept on the screen.
-
-
- BUDGET CODES
-
- The first order of business is to enter your expense budget
- codes. You can enter up to 30 different codes to track your
- expenses. Select (8) in the Bank Teller menu. You can call
- up the budget codes at any time from this menu. We recommend
-
-
-
- 10
-
-
-
- you do a screen print of the codes and then you'll have a
- record for future use. The codes will automatically be saved
- with each account your create.
-
- Take your time and decide what codes you need before you
- start entering transactions. You can go back and change the
- codes using the "Edit checking account" selection in the Bank
- Teller menu, but this would be time consuming. So take some
- time at the start and give it careful consideration. To
- change the budget codes, simply select (8) in the first menu
- and reenter the new codes. This is always done as a complete
- set. Then you must choose "Edit checking account" and change
- the budget code entry for each transaction affected.
-
-
- ENTERING TRANSACTIONS
-
- If you are starting a new account, the program is smart
- enough to know this and ask you for the balance from your
- last balanced statement. If you are entering transactions in
- an existing account, the program will ask you for today's
- date. This allows you to know when account was last
- accessed. Note that there is a counter on the screen so you
- know how many transactions you have entered. The maximum is
- 1000, but you can start part two of the account and add
- another 1000 transactions (e.g. filename NAT2.CK). Remember,
- keep all of each month's transactions in the same file.
-
-
- LOAD CHECKING ACCOUNT
-
-
- This is your first step if you want to add entries in an
- account. The name of the account is in the form: NAME.CK.
-
-
- EDIT CHECKING ACCOUNT
-
- This feature allows you to change, delete, or just scan the
-
-
-
- 11
-
-
-
- account for an entry. The program shows you 18 transactions
- on each screen. You can view over 50 transactions per
- minute!
-
-
- BALANCE MY ACCOUNT
-
- The program will automatically balance your account when your
- statement arrives. To start, you must subtract any service
- charge from your latest statement as an other transaction in
- the menu. Select (4) in the menu and if your account has no
- service charge, press Y.
-
- The program will show each transaction in your account so you
- can check it with your bank statement. If the transaction is
- on the statement and it matches, enter (1). If it is ON the
- statement, but is NOT the same you must check it against the
- entry in your checkbook. Since it is not a match, enter (2).
- If the transaction is not on the statement, it is outstanding
- and you enter (3). You can go back to the main menu at any
- time by pressing the Escape key and make corrections to a
- transaction.
-
-
- CHECK MY ARITHMETIC
-
- The program has a built-in calculator that you can reach from
- the main menu.
-
-
- PRINT THE ACCOUNT
-
- Sometimes it is convenient to have a written record of your
- transactions for future reference. The program will print
- the entire account or just the tax-deductible transactions.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- 12
-
-
-
- SAVE THE ACCOUNT
-
- Don't forget to save the account after entering new
- transactions. Any name up to eight letters and/or numbers
- can be used. Add .CK to the filename.
-
-
- EXIT
-
- Always exit the program after an account. This clears the
- memory to work on another account.

- CASH FLOW ANALYZER
-
- This program is INTEGRATED with the Bank Teller program so
- you only enter the information once. We all have to keep the
- details for checks and charges on what we spend. By adding
- one additional piece of information, a budget code, the power
- of the computer is used to analyze where you spend your
- money.
-
-
- GETTING STARTED
-
- Since this program is integrated with the Bank Teller, the
- same budget codes and expense names are used. The total
- amount spent per month in each expense category cannot exceed
- $9999.99.
-
- The main menu for the Cash Flow Analyzer shows you can
- analyze spending for a new month or look at the analysis for
- a previous month. You can then print the analysis for your
- records.
-
-
- NEW MONTH ANALYSIS
-
- For this feature enter (1), and the program will use the Bank
- Teller account to analyze your spending. The account must
- contain the ENTIRE month you want to analyze. It can contain
- other months, but the entire month you wish to analyze must
- be present in the account.
-
- You can also analyze one, two, or three weeks in an account
- to see how your spending is stacking up against your budget.
-
- Use the SAMPLE.CK account to see how the program works. We
- will analyze the month of September 1987. The first step is
- to enter (1) Analyze a new month. The display will give us a
- reassuring message that our file is loaded. At this point,
- we need to enter the month (a number 1 through 12),(comma)
-
-
-
- 14
-
-
-
- year- no space. For example, we will use 9,1987.
-
- In no time at all, a message is displayed that the computer
- has finished the analysis and it is waiting to print it for
- us. After pressing the space bar, we are back at the main
- menu.
-
-
- PRINT THE ANALYSIS
-
- We're skipping ahead a bit, but since we just did an
- analysis, let's see what it looks like! After entering (4)
- the program asks for take-home pay here, since it will
- probably change (upward I hope with our old friend inflation
- around). By entering it here means no other change in the
- program will be necessary. If you used SAMPLE.CK use a pay of
- $2050.
-
- Make sure the printer is ready. After pressing Enter, the
- analysis is printed. At the left of the page, each budget
- code expense is listed. The next column shows the PLANNED
- amount to be spent in each category. The third column is the
- ACTUAL amount spent in each category. The final column is how
- much the actual VARIED from the planned amount in each
- category. A negative amount means you overspent in that
- category. Totals at the bottom show the total PLANNED amount
- to be spent in the month, and the difference. Next, is your
- "bottom line." Your monthly income minus your total monthly
- expenses.
-
- Ok, we skipped ahead a bit; next is: Save New Month Analysis.
- Be sure to save the analysis AFTER you print it. The memory
- is cleared after the analysis is saved. Saving the monthly
- analysis allows you to keep a permanent record to print at a
- later date. After entering (2) you need to enter the month of
- the analysis followed by .CF. The name can't exceed eight
- letters and/or numbers. If you want to keep several years of
- data, you could add the year; e.g., JULY87.CF. The CF
- identifies the file for you as part of Cash Flow. After
-
-
-
- 15
-
-
-
- saving the analysis, the memory is CLEARED for a new
- analysis. Now, for the final topic.
-
-
- LOAD A PREVIOUS ANALYSIS
-
- If you want to print the analysis for a previous month,
- select (3). At the prompt enter the file name. You can use
- the SAMPLE.CF file to see how this works. Next, a message
- that the file is loaded is displayed. There is a short delay
- at this point while "garbage collection" occurs. Then, back
- to the main menu.

- REAL ESTATE ANALYZER
-
- This program makes complex mortgage and investment
- calculations with detailed displays and printouts. Menu
- driven options calculate: how much home you can afford, your
- current mortgage balance, and mortgage comparisons.
-
-
- USING HOW MUCH HOME CAN I AFFORD?
-
- You need to know your annual income before taxes, the amount
- you want to pay per month, the APR of interest you will pay,
- and the term available for the mortgage (years).
-
- After selecting (1) in the menu, a prompt asks you to enter
- your annual income before taxes (no $ sign). This will be
- used to calculate a recommended maximum mortgage for your
- income. Next, you are asked what monthly payment you can
- afford for principle and interest. Then, enter the term for
- the mortgage in years. Last, enter the Annual Percentage Rate
- of interest (no % sign).
-
- The next display shows your monthly payment and the mortgage
- amount. This is followed by the mortgage amount recommended
- by experts for your income.
-
-
- CALCULATING MORTGAGE BALANCE AND SCHEDULE
-
- You need to know the amount of the mortgage (maximum of
- $999999.99), the term in years, the monthly payment for
- principle and interest, the APR, and the years remaining on
- the mortgage.
-
- After selecting (2) in the menu, enter the original mortgage
- amount (no $ sign). Next, enter the original term of the
- mortgage in years. Now enter the monthly payment including
- principle and interest. The APR of interest is entered next,
-
-
-
-
- 17
-
-
-
- followed by how many years remain on your mortgage.
-
- The next display shows the remaining amount on your
- mortgage. After you press the space bar, a submenu allows you to
- display or print details on the loan. This includes payment
- number, principle amount, interest amount, and new balance. If
- you choose, you can make another mortgage calculation or just
- return to the main menu.
-
-
- COMPARING MORTGAGE OPTIONS
-
- This option will compare a maximum of 10 mortgage options.
- The maximum amount is $999999.99 and the maximum term is 40
- years. You have the choice of varying the amount, the
- interest rate, or the term in years.
-
- After selecting (1) in the menu (vary mortgage amount), a
- prompt asks how many mortgages you want to compare. Next,
- enter the mortgage term in years, followed by the APR of
- interest (no % sign). Now, at this point you can enter all
- the mortgage amounts.
-
- Next, you are offered a choice of displaying or printing
- the comparisons. If you have a printer, make sure it is "ready"
- before you press "P".
-
- At this point, the comparisons will be made, including:
- mortgage amount, term in years, APR of interest, and monthly
- payment amount.
-
- Selecting (2) or (3) in the menu, allows you to vary the
- interest rate or the length of the mortgage. The process for all
- three options is similar.

-
-
-
- FINANCIAL ANALYZER
-
- The personal computer's value lies in putting within reach of
- the public, applications that used to belong exclusively to
- big business. In your everyday financial planning, this
- program gives you answers to loan and savings questions, so
- when you do contact a financial institution, you have a
- clearer idea of what you need.
-
- This program will be your consultant for the most often asked
- financial questions in your life. It takes the mystery out of
- loan and savings calculations, and has easy-to-use menu
- driven options. It can calculate: monthly payment for any
- loan amount, length of loan, and interest rate; interest rate
- being paid on a loan; maximum loan you can afford for any
- monthly payment and interest rate; future value of a savings
- account for any deposit amount and interest rate; the monthly
- payment you need to build a nest egg for any amount and
- interest rate; and loan comparisons for just about any
- possibility.
-
-
- USING MONTHLY LOAN PAYMENT
-
- The first step is to press the number (1) key. You are then
- prompted for the loan amount. It can be any amount from $1 to
- $30,000. Enter the amount (no $ sign) and press the Enter
- key. Next, enter the number of monthly payments on the loan
- and press Enter again. The last question asked is the Annual
- Percentage Rate (APR) of interest you must pay. After
- entering the interest rate (no % sign) and pressing Enter,
- the required monthly payment is displayed.
-
- When you are ready to continue, press the space bar. At
- this point, a submenu allows you to display the amortization
- schedule, print the schedule, or calculate another loan. What's
- amortization? Amortization is a fancy term in finance that
- means to pay back or liquidate the loan.
-
-
-
-
- 19
-
-
-
- CALCULATING INTEREST RATE ON A LOAN
-
- In those circumstances where the Annual Percentage Rate (APR)
- of interest is not known or as a check on figures provided
- for a possible loan, this option calculates the APR from loan
- amount, payment, and number of monthly payments.
-
- A minimum APR of 4% (conservative these days) is assumed.
- The program uses the process of iteration, starting at 4%. It
- then calculates the monthly payment and if the calculated
- payment is less than the payment you entered, an increment is
- added to the APR. The process repeats until the monthly
- payments match. This can take longer than most other
- calculations because the computer is "guessing."
-
- After selecting (2) in the main menu, a prompt asks you to
- enter the amount of the loan (no $ sign). Then, you enter the
- number of monthly payments. Finally, enter how much you pay
- monthly on the loan (no $ sign).
-
- A reassuring message is displayed "computer is calculating!"
- This might take a little while, so you may want to get a cup
- of coffee. When you come back, the loan amount, number of
- payments, monthly payment amount, and interest rate will be
- displayed.
-
-
- CALCULATING WHAT LOAN YOU CAN AFFORD
-
- When a major purchase is planned, this program will come in
- handy. After selecting (3) in the main menu, the first step
- is to enter how much you can pay monthly (no $ sign). Then,
- enter how many months you want to carry the loan. Next, enter
- the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of interest you must pay (no
- % sign). After the answer is displayed, you have the option
- of making another calculation.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- 20
-
-
-
- PREDICTING VALUE OF SAVINGS
-
- This handy option helps plan for college, a vacation, or
- other future savings program. After selecting (4) in the main
- menu, you are asked to enter how much you can save monthly
- (no $ sign); the maximum amount is $800. Then, enter how many
- years you want to save. Next, enter the Annual Percentage
- Rate of interest your savings will earn (no % sign). In no
- time at all, the answer is displayed at the bottom of the
- screen. You also have the chance to make another calculation.
-
- If you choose not to make another calculation, a submenu
- gives you the opportunity to display the amount deposited,
- the interest earned, and the new balance for each year you
- save. You can also print the information for a permanent
- record. The final options allow you to make another
- calculation or return to the main menu.

- SAVING A SPECIFIED AMOUNT
-
- Occasionally there are times when a specific amount of
- money will be needed for a vacation, a new car, home
- improvements, etc. This program makes planning easy by
- calculating exactly how much you need to save monthly. After
- selecting (5) in the main menu, a prompt asks you to enter the
- total amount you want to save (no $ sign). Next, you are asked
- how many years you want to save. The last question is the Annual
- Percentage Rate of interest, don't enter the % sign. In no time
- at all, the answer appears. You have the option of making
- another calculation.
-
-
- COMPARING LOANS
-
- "Shop and compare" is not just restricted to purchasing
- goods. This program option allows you to compare any number
- of loans.

-
-
-
- There are many possible combinations of loan comparison. You
- can compare the increased interest paid when the number of
- payments are increased. You can compare the monthly payment
- and interest paid as the APR increases. The loan amount can
- be varied to determine how much the monthly payment
- increases. And, on and on.
-
- After selecting (6) in the main menu, the display gives you a
- short summary of the program. After pressing the space bar,
- the prompt asks for the number of loans you want to compare.
- There is no limit to the number of comparisons.
-
- After entering the number of loans and pressing Enter, you
- are given the choice of displaying or printing the
- comparisons. If you have a printer, make sure it is "ready."
-
- The next prompt asks for the loan amount on the first loan
- (no $ sign). Then, enter the number of monthly payments,
- followed by the Annual Percentage Rate of interest (no %
- sign). After pressing Enter, the first loan amount, APR,
- monthly payment amount, and total interest paid are
- displayed. If you press the space bar, you can enter
- information for the next loan. This will continue until all
- the loans are compared. The results are fancier on the
- printer, but the information is the same.
